Serving the Lord Jesus is a team sport. The Lord calls us to serve Him within the church community not on our own. Sometimes it feels like it would easier to do things by ourselves and forget about those people down at the church all together. But the truth is we can do so much more together than we can separately. When we are all aiming at the same goal and same purpose. Not to mention the added benefit of having a group of people who have our backs when the going gets tough. When crisis strikes, where do you run and go for help? When your world caves in, who do you call? When you need guidance where is your compass? The truth is you need the church and the church needs you.
As we finish Joshua 6 and see Israel’s victory, Rahab’s salvation, and Joshua’s elevated status, I am struck by the fact that every person in Israel had a hand in this victory. God orchestrated this whole affair so that each person was involved in this first battle for the promised land. Each person in Israel, “had some skin in the game,” when it came time to defeat Jericho. There were no spectators they were all involved from the youngest to the oldest. I think God did this on purpose. To show the people that this conquest was going to take all of them. They would serve different roles within that conquest but they all had a part to play. The same is true of how the Lord designed His church. We all have different gifting and different level of gifting within the church. But we all have a role and a purpose to play within the mission of the church. There are no spectators when it comes to the march of God’s people in God’s Kingdom. Those who choose to sit on the sideline and spectate or criticize are simply refusing to use what God has given them to serve His people the church and through the church, the World. You may not realize this, but God has a special purpose for you. If you are unsure what that purpose is, and how you can best serve Him, would you begin praying today to seek out that purpose for your life? Ask Him to show you how you can better serve His people, not how they can better serve you. Pray for the Lord to guide you to the place He wants you to serve and make an eternal difference.
